Water – Your Most Important Ally For Good
Health
Did you know….
• Over 2/3’s of the adult body is composed of water
• 82% of our blood is made up of water; 95% of our brain is water;
90% of our lungs is water
• Even our bones are made up of 22% water (source: Elixir of the
Ageless, by Patrick and Gale Crystal Flanagan)
There is NO Substitute for Water
Our body needs pure, plain water…not just any liquid. When we
consume other liquids such as colas, coffee, and tea, these
beverages must be filtered by the kidneys before they can be
utilized in the body. The chemicals, sugars, and preservatives in
these drinks tax the kidneys, concentrate the urine, and PUT A
BURDEN ON THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM!
What Exactly Does Pure, Plain Water Do?
Water is key to the mechanics of the human body. Our bodies can’t
work without it, just as a car can’t run without gas and oil. In
fact, just about all of our cell and organ functions depend on water
to work properly. When we are properly hydrated, our hormone
functions improve, the liver breaks down and releases more fat, and
our digestion and elimination functions work better. Some other
important functions of water in our bodies include:
• Water serves as a lubricant
• Water forms the base for saliva
• Water forms the fluids that surround the joints.
• Water regulates the body temperature, as the cooling and heating
is distributed through perspiration.
• Water helps to alleviate constipation by moving food through the
intestinal tract and thereby eliminating waste- the best detox
agent.
• Regulates metabolism
Are You Dehydrated?
A mere 2% drop in our body’s water supply can trigger signs of
dehydration, including:
• Fuzzy short-term memory
• Trouble with basic math
• Chronic constipation and headaches
• Difficulty focusing on smaller print, such as a computer screen
• Dry mouth and / or eyes; dry skin; dry and chapped lips; dry nasal
membranes
• Dark colored urine; recurrent urinary infections; history of
kidney stones
Mild dehydration is also one of the most common causes of daytime
fatigue. An estimated seventy-five percent of Americans have mild,
chronic dehydration.
Since every single bodily process depends on water to perform its
function, water is the primary transporter of nutrients…water helps
deliver nutrients to the cell and assists in the removal of waste
products.
